Just a fun little thing I did at the museum back in about 2016 for Lockheed Martin.

We are currently revising many of the vignettes for our Astronaut on the Surface of Mars show at DMNS in Space Odyssey! Since the Covid outbreak, we have not been able to do the show since it involves wearing a spacesuit, complete with helmet. We also discovered the suits are badly in need of repair. This process of fixing everything is nearing completion with teh expected return of our spacesuits by the end of Jume. Shortly afterwards we will be back to our fully reimagined program featuring astronauts on Mars who will perform a variety of experiments and answer your questions!

In collaboration with my publisher, we have completed the design for the cover art on my newest book: The King of Gems! The knight walking toward a distant nebula is something I thought portrayed a mix of fantasy and science fiction nicely. Can't wait to start going over the edits my publisher suggests.
After over two years of work and some frustratingly large obstacles to overcome, I can finally announce that my latest novel, The King of Gems, is completed and has been accepted by Solstice Publishing! The King of Gems is a bit of a new adventure for me as an author. I am straying from my traditional home in pure science fiction to dip my toes into the world of fantasy writing, but with a scifi twist. Sort of a D&D meets Star Trek sort of story. More to come as we get closer to the release date, still TBD. In the meantime, I want to thank everyone who helped get me here today. My wife, Diane for all her patience and understanding as well as editing help. Chris, Keelin, Greg, and Max for agreeing to be my beta readers and initial editors for this project. Last, but not least, all the doctors, surgeons and hospital personnel who took such incredible care of me during my surgery and recovery. All of you are amazing!
I have finally broken through the nasty brain fog I was struggling with and am now in the last few chapters of The King of Gems. It feels great to be writing at full speed again.
As usual, as I am writing, the story continues to evolve and develop in strange and often very different ways from what I thought would happen. Apparently those pesky voices in my head are back at work telling me their story again. If I simply step back and listen to them the writing turns out far better than if I try to force it go the way I imagined it would. My best estimate at this time is that I will finish the first draft by the end of May and have it ready to send out to a couple of Beta readers and grammar checkers sometime in June. Hopefully it will be ready to send in to my publisher by late July, early August. Then the final edits get going to add that polish to the story. Or totally rip it apart. Either way, it is fun to get moving again. I still haven't decided on a cover yet, so let me know what you think of these options. I am incredibly excited to announce that I have been recognized as a Book Excellence Award Finalist for my book, Aeon Rises in the Science Fiction Category.
Out of hundreds of books that were entered into the Book Excellence Awards competition, my book was selected for its high quality writing, design and overall market appeal. To see my complete award listing you can visit: https://honorees.bookexcellenceawards.com/#!/Aeon-Rises-Young-Adult-Fiction/p/311309055/category=88055011 The book was released in 2018 and is about Justin Madrid, a teen in Aurora, Colorado whose life takes a sudden turn. After all, what would you do if you were the only one who could stop an invasion of evil alien librarians?. The book is perfect for Middle and High School or SciFi lovers of any age. You can get a copy for yourself at getbook.at/AeonRises.
Congratulations! If you are reading this, you survived a year like none other! We can now look forward with actual anticipation rather than trepidation. Vaccines are being administered, At least here in Colorado Covid problems are on the decline, and a new year has dawned with all of the promise of new and greater things to come. Now all we need to do is live up to that promise.
My wish for this new year is that everyone take a step back, take a deep breath, and resolve to be a bit calmer and kinder to one another. Let our empathy toward others grow and replace our more selfish tendencies and inclinations. In other words... Be Nice! It's not that hard. Sorry about the long hiatus from posting anything here on my website and blog. I was unavoidably out of commission for several situations here at home that I won't bore you with. I hope to be back more regularly now. So let's catch up.
At the Denver Museum of Nature and Science, we are reopened for business, but with strict regulations on how many guests will be admitted each day and in each gallery. Check our website for ticket information. Within the museum, both Space Odyssey and Discovery Zone have reopened after a lengthy remodelling. Both are spectacular and definitely worth the time to see. Two of my books, Hegira and Recusant, have been re-edited to add a few clarifications and correct a couple of issues that needed some work and are now also available as audiobooks. the third book, Empyrean is in the works and the audiobook version should be released in a few months. See more under the My Books tab. I am finally able to get back to writing my next novel. Its working title is "The King of Gems". This one is something a bit different. Sort of a Dungeons and Dragons meets Star Trek story. Not sure when I will get it ready for publication, but hopefully by mid 2021. I may post a few early chapters after a bit more editing and see what you think. That's enough for now. I will try to update this blog at least once a month, maybe more if time and news allows. Thanks for reading. |
